Music to go to work by... The Wednesday Edition!

You know, I was only just starting to get used to the old pornographers.

Okay, I have to admit, the sole reason I even bothered listening to The New Pornographers is a pretty convoluted story to itself.

One of my favourite bands from the early 90’s was an all-girl band out of Vancouver called Cub.  Yeah, it was pretty saccharine and a lot over the top, but I’m a saccharine kinda cuddlepop guy.  Just don’t tell anyone, ‘kay?

What the hell do you mean, “It was kind of obvious?“

Their drummer in the early years was Neko Case, who remains one of my absolutely favourite singers.  Other than a complete lack of talent and utter delusions of grandeur, I always thought I would have been great as one of her boyfriends.  Actually, put Neko together with Sarah Harmer and sing me to sleep and I’ll die in alt-country pseudo heaven.  And my Lady-love will ensure I’m twelve feet under for five to six hours before I die.

So anyways, it appears that I’ve been a big fan of Neko Case for an awful long time now and although I have to say I’d not run right out to listen to a band named The New Pornographers, the presense of Ms. Case is more than enough to make me sit up and pay attention.  Well, I was hooked from the first moment I actually listened.  Even though it seems Neko is playing with them less frequently these days, I’m certainly hooked and The New Pornographers is one of the best bands to come along in the past few years. They write songs like few others and it’s well worth a slice of my iPod and a moment or two before work.
