The Expense Game

  • August 3, 2012
Expense accounts. You’re think that the very phrase was self explanatory. It’s an accounting of the expenses you incurred in order to perform your job. I don’t submit my expenses to drive to work. I don’t submit my expense for my morning coffee. I’m not a great fan of the office coffee, so I get my own tea. If someone else brings in a box, I’m grateful, but I don’t get upset when I buy it myself. I said WHAT now? Oh yeah!

  • August 1, 2012
“First Alberta Party candidate announces for 2016” I read the headline and I spent a couple minutes trying to figure out who it was. Oh. Right then. It was me. And here is the difference that makes the Alberta Party something I completely adore, affiliate with, and support completely: The act of simply announcing an intention to run is EXCITING. It makes a splash, it makes a difference now when we need exciting news. My Alberta Party hopes - move forward.

  • July 31, 2012
I wasn’t ready to write a blog on the Alberta Party yet. My good friend, Glenn Taylor, has resigned as the leader of the new Alberta Party. First, I’m sorry Glenn. I’ve done my best, if I had the resources I’d love to be able to dedicate enough so that Glenn could work full time without stress on building something that this province desperately needs. I consider you a close and personal friend and I will stand beside you in whatever we tackle in the times ahead. I judge the judges. We judge the judges.

Editors note: The Op-Ed section of my blog is both new and old. Make no mistake, my blog is my opinion, my happenstance and circumstance, my experiences, my joys, my beliefs, my favourite mistakes and my foolish nonsense. It’s a place to have my say and monitor my own development of thought. It has always been so. I have also strayed to regions of great seriousness and importance of varying significance. Read More

Final goodbyes?

  • July 28, 2012
“It’s not really goodbye. Goodbye is final, she isn’t really gone.” No, she’s not really gone. A think of a dear friend who said my awesome clearly came from Mom. That’s great to be noticed. It wasn’t exactly what I wanted, but it worked out to be exactly what we all wanted. Her closest family, the ones who have known her all her life - or all of ours. She wanted it to be a happy time, but she would have never denied us our tears or expressing our feelings. • July 24, 2012
I received a wonderful email today from a contributor to the conversation here at my blog. “I have started a website page and facebook page looking for stories from others who have problems dealing with Alberta MEP. The website is problemswithalbertamep.webs.com/ and the facebook page is issues with albertamep. Would appreciate these being posted on your website. It would be very greatly appreciated. Thanks so much in advance. It has only just begun, but I have joined tonight and intend to be an active, contributing member. Read More

Magpie

  • July 17, 2012
Magpie You’re such an early riser Mapgie You’re such a bold chastiser Magpie Always waking up my wife and I You coyote in the sky I spoke with my neighbour not too many days ago. She was showing me the work she’d done in her garden, we spent a little time visiting, and the call of a magpie came from the tree overhead. “Looks like the magpies have moved into the old crow’s nest. Commuting along 9 Avenue SE

  • July 11, 2012
I travel back and forth on 9th Avenue SE through Inglewood at least five days a week. Four of those five days I usually cycle, Fridays I typically drive. I tend to have pretty firm views on what works with the bus / bike lanes that were put in this past year. In the winter when the lanes were first put in, I was one of the few riding a bike along 9 Ave. Read More

How many people does it take to do something good?

  • June 8, 2012
I was out picking up litter for my 20 Minute Makeover yesterday when one of the neighbourhood’s long time residents stopped me to chat. He challenged me a bit, the one thing worth mentioning now is he asked why I should have to pick up the litter. “You shouldn’t have to do it,” he said. He’s right. I shouldn’t have to do it. On the other hand, if no one does it, nothing will change and nothing will ever get better. Read More
