Stampede Spirit - the real stuff.

  • July 6, 2013
“Hello all, We have been approached by the Stampede Parade organizers, who would like to have a section represent those who have helped our city and residents in a time of need.” That’s how the letter to those of us involved with YYChelps.ca began. We got it Tuesday. Like just about everything about this whole flood response, we threw it all together in a hurry and made something special of it. Hey #FloodFriend

  • June 30, 2013
Hey #FloodFriend, Sorry ‘bout your stuff. If you didn’t lose any stuff, sorry you had to leave your home for a while. Or if you got through unscathed, thanks for helping out. It’s cool - it’s only stuff and you matter so much more. In fact, over the past week or so I’ve discovered so much more cool about you. I genuinely like you. I think of you as a true friend I’ve had for years now. Read More

Turning a corner on the flood?

  • June 26, 2013
Wow, Calgary. Your volunteer spirit is astounding. The turnout and willingness to do good has been overwhelming. Many blocks are now considered “under control”. We are starting to reach the point where we can take a longer term approach. We still need volunteers, there is much to be done, but a change in focus is soon approaching. We still require volunteers to empty basements of goods and take down drywall, but not as many as before. Read More

We are Calgary

  • June 25, 2013
There is only one thing I could title this post. This morning I lined up at McMahon Stadium with a couple thousand of my best friends. We are the resolve, we are the determination, we will help each other and we will make a difference in our city. We got our forms, we signed our forms, we ran out of forms. We lined up to get approved, we lined up to get on buses, we ran out of buses. Read More

Not buying into the intergenerational stereotypes.

  • May 29, 2013
Okay, if you’ve been here before you know I love to think about different ideas that come together and alter my view on the world. I especially love it when they take convoluted paths in order to get to me. It happens more than I generally like to admit, and when I come up with a groundbreaking idea, I love to share it. I’ve enjoyed reading Larry Dignan over the years. Read More

Calgary Citizen Mark Zaugg says he wants provincial tax break pondered

Rick Bell has another good column out, but I have some questions. And since I guess I’m lumped with the “Nenshi faithful”, I can’t just sit silently. Go read Rick’s column first. “She wants her money. We’re on the same side on this one.” It’s not simply her money. I suspect Rick and I are also on the same side on this. Not so many years ago, we had a mega problem with mega growth in this province. Read More

Introducing the ZarQ10

  • May 9, 2013
I picked up my BlackBerry Q10 from the post office last night. Tore it open in the parking lot in order to view it in all it’s splendor, then rushed straight home to begin the transition. It came with a letter that advised me to call my mobile provider (Telus for me) in order to make the transition. That’s opposed to making the change over online. Great, I backed up my Bold 9900 then made the call from my old phone (I haven’t had a landline in five years). Read More

Pride in Community.

I should have clued in a lot earlier in the day that it was going to be one of those days that was something special. I really need to remember the entire week was a little magical, I just have to remember to look where I want to go. I’m not going to wax all that poetic, this is a business lunch blog. In fact, I’m starting at the end. Read More

A day of AUGH!

  • April 23, 2013
The longer today goes on, the odder it’s become. It started off fantastic with a beautiful ride into downtown on Earth Day. No one can take that away. I explored and learned a small ton of awesome stuff at work. Load balancing? Yes, please. I’m more than ready to take it on. Tonight I got invited to a ContainR update. This is beyond cool, they’re trying to create the most amazing space imaginable in an otherwise fenced off, vacant lot. Read More
